How KKH's Count-To-Ten works
From 9am, count each time your baby moves, and add up the movements at the end of the day. KKH asks you to contact your doctor immediately if your baby makes fewer than 10 movements a day on two days in a row. Its printed chart has boxes from 9am to 9pm, with a space for you to write the week of pregnancy.
Mount Alvernia Hospital's leaflet uses a timed check instead: lie on your left side and see how long 10 movements take, and contact your doctor if you feel fewer than 10 in two hours, after trying water, a meal or a sweet drink, moving about, or talking to your baby. Follow whichever method your own doctor gave you.
Questions parents ask
How many kicks should I feel in a day?
KKH's Count-To-Ten chart asks you to count from 9am and contact your doctor immediately if there are fewer than 10 movements a day on two days in a row. If you notice your baby moving less than usual at any time, HealthHub says go to your doctor or hospital straight away.
When should I start counting kicks?
No Singapore hospital page we read gives a start week. KKH's chart leaves the week blank for you to fill in, and Mount Alvernia's leaflet talks about knowing your baby's pattern in the third trimester, 28 to 40 weeks. Ask your gynae when to start.
