Polyclinic, GP, paediatrician or A&E?
Knowing where to take your child saves time and money:
- Polyclinic or GP: routine illnesses (coughs, colds, mild fever), childhood vaccinations and well-baby checks. Affordable, and NCIS vaccines are free for Singapore Citizen children at polyclinics.
- Paediatrician (private clinic or hospital): very young infants, developmental concerns, ongoing or complex conditions, allergies, or when you want a specialist's opinion and continuity of care.
- Children's Emergency (KKH or NUH), open 24 hours: for the serious symptoms below.
Go to a Children's Emergency now if your child has
- Difficulty breathing, blue lips, or fast or laboured breathing.
- A seizure (fit), or is floppy, drowsy or hard to wake.
- A fever in a baby under 3 months, or a very high fever that won't come down.
- Signs of dehydration (few wet nappies, sunken eyes, no tears).
- Persistent vomiting or diarrhoea, a stiff neck, or a rash that doesn't fade when pressed.

How to choose a paediatrician
- Location and hours: somewhere convenient, ideally near an MRT, with night or weekend clinics if you work.
- Public vs private: public hospitals and polyclinics are more affordable and offer subsidies for citizens; private clinics offer shorter waits and continuity.
- Sub-specialty fit: for allergies, heart, gut or development, look for a paediatrician with that focus, or a clinic group like SBCC that has several.
- Style and communication: someone who listens, explains clearly and is happy to refer when needed.

Should I see a polyclinic, GP or paediatrician?

How much does it cost to see a paediatrician?
Roughly S$80 to S$130 or more for a private paediatrician consultation, before any tests or medicines. A GP is about S$30 to 60, and polyclinics are heavily subsidised for citizens and PRs.
Which hospitals have a 24-hour children's emergency?
KK Women's and Children's Hospital (KKH) and NUH's Children's Medical Institute run dedicated 24-hour Children's Emergency departments. Several private hospitals - Mount Elizabeth (Orchard and Novena), Gleneagles, Thomson Medical, Mount Alvernia and Raffles - run 24-hour urgent care centres that also see children. Use the "24-hour emergency" filter to see them all. For after-hours but non-emergency care, Parkway East and the NUH Children's Urgent Care clinic run paediatric urgent care into the late evening.
Can I see the clinics as a directory and on a map?

Are childhood vaccinations free?
