At 15 weeks pregnant your bump is starting to show, KKH says, and your baby has started using its arms and may even try to suck its thumb. You may also feel warm all the time. In Singapore, that can be most of the day.

Your baby at 15 weeks

Your baby's mouth has developed quickly, along with the tongue and the other muscles of the mouth. The skin is delicate and see-through, KKH says, much like rice paper, so you could almost see the blood vessels underneath. The bones keep getting stronger as your baby grows.

Dressing for the bump and the heat

  • Expect to need stretchy pants or skirts at around 18 to 22 weeks, KKH's planner says.
  • Flat or low-heeled shoes feel better as your centre of gravity shifts, and they help prevent falls.
  • Pregnancy raises your body temperature. Breathable clothes and underwear in linen or cotton help you stay cool. Our guide to surviving pregnancy in Singapore heat has more.

If you're wondering whether your bump is on track, KKH calls weeks 15 and 16 the point where it begins to show. Before that, it can look like you've eaten an extra bowl of noodles. Our pregnant belly guide explains why bumps differ.

Discharge changes in pregnancy

Vaginal discharge often changes in pregnancy. KKH suggests cotton underwear, which lets the area breathe and lowers the chance of a yeast infection. If you notice a foul smell or itching, get it treated early.

If your screening came back high

A high-risk first trimester result means you'll be offered more testing. Amniocentesis isn't routine. KKH's planner keeps it for women whose screening showed a higher risk. The options:

OptionWhenWhat to know
NIPTAny time from 10 weeksA blood test that picks up about 99% of Down syndrome cases; it doesn't confirm a diagnosis
AmniocentesisTypically after 16 weeks at KKH; HealthHub says 15 to 20 weeksDiagnostic; KKH's miscarriage risk is 0.3% (1 in 300)
CVSTypically 10 to 14 weeksDiagnostic; usually past by 15 weeks

Your doctor will explain which fits your result and how far along you are.

What's due in Singapore at 15 weeks

  • Book a follow-up test if your screening result was high.
  • Plan the whooping cough vaccine: KKH says the best time is between 16 and 32 weeks.
  • Look at antenatal class dates; KKH takes registrations after 16 weeks.
  • Keep your bills for the MediSave Maternity Package claim after the birth.

When to call the hospital

Bleeding, fluid leaking, painful tightening, a bad fall, chest pain, fainting or breathlessness need a same-day check.

KKH's Urgent O&G Centre, at Basement 1 of the Women's Tower, takes walk-ins 24 hours a day for early pregnancy problems such as pain and bleeding. Under 16 weeks, if the bleeding is minimal or the pain is mild, its Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit can see you the same or next working day by appointment. If you're booked with another hospital, call its O&G clinic or go to its emergency department.
