A newborn photographer in Singapore charges from about $200 for a one-hour home session to $1,600 for a three-hour shoot with a photobook. Those figures come from the studios' own price lists on 12 October 2026. Most studios suggest shooting when your baby is 5 to 14 days old, while babies are sleepy and curl up easily, so book in your third trimester; White Room Studio suggests from about 28 weeks. Home sessions suit families in confinement. Whoever you choose, ask how they support your baby's head and neck in posed shots, and keep the room warm. Below: prices compared, the best age, home or studio, safety questions and a prep checklist.

If your baby arrives early or needs time in special care, tell the studio as soon as you can. When you book, ask how they handle a date that has to move.

Home or studio?

A home session means no outing in the first weeks. Tomato Photo points out that families observing confinement can have photos taken without leaving home, and home shoots usually take 1 to 2 hours, it says. A studio has lighting, backdrops and props ready, and Orange Studios allows 2 to 3 hours. White Room adds a $150 location fee for home sessions. If you're still recovering from a caesarean, a home session saves you the car ride and the stairs; our confinement guide covers what to expect in the first month.

Safety: what to ask your photographer

Posed newborn photos look effortless, but a baby can't hold up their own head. HealthHub says babies have little control over their head until their neck muscles strengthen at about 6 months, and that you should always support the head and neck when you carry or lay your baby down. Ask the photographer:

  • How do you support my baby in posed shots? Our Momento says its froggy pose, with the chin resting on the hands, needs careful handling and support.
  • Do you follow my baby's lead? White Room says it never places babies in positions that cause discomfort or risk, and Bambini says it works with what your baby is comfortable doing.
  • Are wraps and props washed? Xiaoyun says its wraps and props are washed and sanitised before each newborn shoot.
  • Can I stay close throughout, and stop for feeds and cuddles whenever my baby needs one?
  • Who will be handling my baby, and have they done newborn shoots before?

When the shoot ends, go back to safe sleep. HealthHub's Parent Hub says to put your baby on their back for every sleep, keep loose blankets, pillows and stuffed toys out of the sleep area, and avoid too many layers. A baby shouldn't be left asleep on a posing beanbag or in a prop basket once the camera's down.
