How the support adds up
What your baby gets depends on which side of 1 April 2027 the birth falls.

The old Cash Gift amounts, for reference
Before the change, the Baby Bonus Cash Gift totalled $11,000 for a 1st or 2nd child and $13,000 for a 3rd or later child, paid every 6 months until age 6.5. Those payments stop after 31 March 2027. In their place your child gets the top-up to $10,000 and then $32,000 of Child Credits over 16 years.

Get the CDA matching right
The First Step Grant arrives without you saving a cent. The matching only comes when you deposit. If your child was born before 1 April 2027 and has a cap above $5,000, save up to it by 30 September 2027, because the cap drops to $5,000 the next day. What a baby costs in the first year
There's no official figure for this, and it swings a lot with your choices. The calculator starts with example amounts so you can see how the sum works. Swap in your own numbers as you get quotes.
- Pregnancy and delivery is usually the biggest single bill. A subsidised ward in a public hospital and a private suite are far apart. Use the delivery cost tool for your hospital.
- Confinement help is optional. If you hire a confinement nanny or book a package, put the full amount in.
- Gear is where hand-me-downs save the most.

Worked examples
1st child due 1 December 2026, $5,000 saved into the CDA. Cash is $10,000: the $3,000 Cash Gift at birth, then a $7,000 top-up by 30 April 2027. Add the $5,000 First Step Grant, $5,000 of matching and the $5,000 MediSave grant, and that's $25,000 around the birth. Child Credits add $32,000 over 16 years and the PSEA top-up adds $10,000. Total: $67,000.
With the example costs, the first year comes to $19,048. The $10,000 cash gift covers just over half, which leaves $9,048 for you.
3rd child born 1 March 2025, $9,000 saved into the CDA by 30 Sep 2027. Cash $10,000, First Step Grant $10,000, matching $9,000, MediSave Grant for Newborns $4,000 (born before 1 April 2025), Large Family MediSave Grant $5,000 and $1,000 of Large Family LifeSG Credits. Then $32,000 of Child Credits and the $10,000 PSEA top-up. Total: $81,000.
Questions parents ask
How much is the Baby Bonus in Singapore now?
For babies born before 1 April 2027, the Cash Gift is paid until 31 March 2027 and then topped up so the cash totals $10,000. Babies born from 1 April 2027 get a $10,000 Baby Gift. Every child also gets $2,000 of Child Credits a year from age 1 to 16.
Is the Baby Bonus being replaced?
Yes. The SG Child Support Package, announced at the National Day Rally on 23 August 2026, replaces the Baby Bonus Scheme and the Large Families Scheme from April 2027. Children already on the Baby Bonus are moved over automatically.
What is the CDA First Step Grant?
Money the government puts into your child's Child Development Account without you saving first. It's $5,000, or $10,000 for a 3rd or later child born from 18 February 2025 to 31 March 2027.
How does CDA matching work?
The government adds a dollar for every dollar you save, up to a cap. For babies born from 1 April 2027 the cap is $5,000. Earlier births keep their old caps of $4,000, $7,000, $9,000 or $15,000 until 30 September 2027, and every cap becomes $5,000 from 1 October 2027.
How much is the MediSave Grant for Newborns?
$5,000 for babies born on or after 1 April 2025, and $4,000 for babies born from 1 January 2015 to 31 March 2025. It goes into your baby's own MediSave automatically after birth registration.
Can I spend the CDA money on anything?
No. It can only be paid to Baby Bonus Approved Institutions such as preschools, hospitals, polyclinics and GP clinics. Since 1 January 2026 it can't be used at optical shops or retail pharmacies.
What is the total my child could receive?
For a child born from 1 April 2027 it's up to $67,000 by our count: $10,000 Baby Gift, $32,000 Child Credits, $5,000 First Step Grant, $5,000 matching, $5,000 MediSave grant and a $10,000 PSEA top-up. The government's own total of about $69,500 also counts Edusave.
Do PRs or foreigners get it?
No. The Baby Bonus, the SG Child Support Package and the MediSave Grant for Newborns are all for Singapore citizen children. If your child becomes a citizen later, some amounts are pro-rated.
Do unmarried parents qualify?
The Baby Bonus Scheme asks for parents who are lawfully married. The SG Child Support Package says a child is eligible if they are a Singapore citizen aged 17 or below. Check your child on LifeSG if your situation is different.
