Large Family MediSave Grant
What the Large Family MediSave Grant is
It's $5,000 from the government for each 3rd or later child who is a Singapore citizen and was born on or after 18 February 2025. The money goes into mum's CPF MediSave Account, and she can use it for her own medical bills and her family's.
There's no form to fill in, because once your baby is enrolled in the Baby Bonus Scheme, MSF checks the birth order and pays the grant about 2 weeks later.
| Question | Rule |
|---|---|
| Which children | 3rd and later citizen children born on or after 18 February 2025, enrolled in the Baby Bonus Scheme |
| How much | $5,000 per qualifying child. A 4th and a 5th child each bring another $5,000 |
| Who receives it | Mum, if she is alive, is the child's biological or adoptive mother, and is a citizen or PR. If not, it goes to the child |
| Full or part amount | Full $5,000 if at least one parent is a citizen when the child is born. Pro-rated if both parents are non-citizens then and the child becomes a citizen later |
| When | Around 2 weeks after the Baby Bonus enrolment goes through |

What mum can use it for
It's ordinary MediSave money once it lands. LifeSG lists MediShield Life premiums, recommended childhood vaccinations, hospital stays and approved outpatient treatments, for her and her family members. So it can go towards a child's hospital stay or the family's MediShield Life premiums.
MediSave has its own withdrawal limits for each kind of bill. The grant raises the balance but doesn't raise those limits.
Not the same as the MediSave Grant for Newborns
Every citizen baby gets the MediSave Grant for Newborns, paid into the baby's own MediSave. It's $5,000 for babies born on or after 1 April 2025 and was $4,000 before that. The Large Family MediSave Grant is on top of that and goes to mum. A qualifying 3rd child brings $10,000 of MediSave money into the family in total.

In place of the birth-order bonuses, every child gets the same SG Child Support Package: a $10,000 Baby Gift, $2,000 of Child Credits a year from age 1 to 16, a $5,000 CDA First Step Grant with up to $5,000 of matching, and a $10,000 PSEA top-up at 17.
Large families are promised more on top. The Made For Families page names three areas: healthcare through the MediSave grant, transport costs (the Ministry of Transport will provide extra support), and housing (the Ministry of National Development is studying it). None of these has an amount or a start date yet.

Worked examples
3rd child due 1 December 2026, both parents citizens. Mum gets $5,000 in her MediSave about 2 weeks after Baby Bonus enrolment. The baby's CDA First Step Grant is $10,000, which is $5,000 more than a 1st or 2nd child gets. No LifeSG credits, because that scheme stops before the baby turns 1. Large family extras: $10,000.
3rd child born 1 March 2025. Same $5,000 MediSave grant and $5,000 extra First Step Grant, plus $1,000 of Large Family LifeSG Credits paid from 28 April 2026, the year the child turned 1. Large family extras: $11,000.
3rd child born 1 June 2024. Too early for the MediSave grant and the higher First Step Grant. The family did get $1,000 of LifeSG credits in September 2025 and again in April 2026, so $2,000. This is the group the government says it is looking at for a repositioned MediSave grant.
Questions parents ask
How much is the Large Family MediSave Grant?
$5,000, paid once, for each 3rd or later Singapore citizen child born on or after 18 February 2025.
Does my 3rd child born before 18 February 2025 qualify?
Not under today's rules. But the government said at NDR 2026 that it is studying how to extend this support to existing large families that have not received the grant, and it hasn't confirmed anything yet.
Whose MediSave does the grant go into?
Mum's, as long as she is alive, is the child's biological or adoptive mother, and is a citizen or PR. If she doesn't meet those conditions, the grant goes to the child.
Do I need to apply?
No. Enrol your baby in the Baby Bonus Scheme, which you can do during birth registration on LifeSG. MSF works out eligibility and pays it around 2 weeks later.
What can the grant pay for?
The same things as the rest of mum's MediSave. LifeSG lists MediShield Life premiums, recommended childhood vaccinations, hospital stays and approved outpatient treatments, for her and her family members.
Is it different from the MediSave Grant for Newborns?
Yes. The MediSave Grant for Newborns is $5,000 for every citizen baby and goes into the baby's own MediSave. The Large Family MediSave Grant is a separate $5,000 for 3rd and later children and goes to mum.
Will babies born from April 2027 still get it?
The government has said the MediSave grant continues as part of extra help for large families, and that more details will come later. Until those are published, we show it as to be announced for births from 1 April 2027.
What about twins as my 3rd and 4th children?
The grant is per qualifying child, so each 3rd or later child born from 18 February 2025 counts. MSF decides the birth order when you enrol them.
What happens to the other large family benefits?
The higher $10,000 CDA First Step Grant ends for babies born from April 2027, and Large Family LifeSG Credits have stopped, with no payment in 2027. Every child gets the SG Child Support Package from then.
