Prenatal Checkups & Scans in Singapore: The Schedule Explained
Regular antenatal care keeps you and your baby healthy and catches issues early. Here is the typical schedule of checkups and scans in Singapore, and how to manage the costs.
How often are the visits?
A common pattern is monthly visits until about week 28, fortnightly until week 36, then weekly until delivery. Each visit usually checks your weight, blood pressure, urine, and your baby's heartbeat and growth.
The key scans
- Dating scan (6–10 weeks): confirms the pregnancy, the heartbeat, and your due date.
- First-trimester screening / OSCAR (11–14 weeks): a nuchal translucency scan plus a blood test to estimate the chance of Down syndrome and other conditions. Non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) is an optional blood test alternative.
- Detailed anomaly scan (18–22 weeks): a thorough look at your baby's brain, heart, spine, limbs and organs.
- Growth scans (third trimester): check your baby's size, position and the amount of amniotic fluid.
Common tests
- Blood tests early on for blood group, anaemia, hepatitis B, HIV, syphilis, rubella immunity and thalassaemia.
- Oral glucose tolerance test (around 24–28 weeks) for gestational diabetes.
- Group B Strep swab (35–37 weeks) — if positive, you'll be offered antibiotics during labour.
Where to go, and the cost
